If you were a tourist, holidaying in this beautiful city (?),would you take a photo of your family in...a FOOD COURT????
I certainly wouldn't. There's better backdrops out there, surely. And if there aren't, what does that say about Sydney?
Perhaps the guy I saw taking the photo in Sydney Central Plaza food court had run out of scenic photo locations. Perhaps he was just trying to use up the last of his film. Perhaps he just likes food courts. I guess that if I was overseas, I would definitely take some photos in supermarkets, which locals might find strange. I love foreign supermarkets. I love strange food items, the likes of which one never sees at home, except perhaps in some fancy supermarket, and then they would be ridiculously expensive. The only place I've been to that vaguely counts as overseas is Auckland, and the supermarkets there were a little exciting, and they weren't even that different from Sydney ones. The most exciting food/drink product was a brand of juice called 'Fresh-up' (pronounced 'Frish-ep', of course) which came in a can like a soft drink. All the flavours were apple-based, which made a nice change from orange varieties. The apple mango was particularly good. I included a can in the 'Strange Foods Hamper' that I brought back for Vanessa.
I got paid $30 today for taste-testing 'Diet Coke With Lime'. It was surprisingly good. Within 30 minutes I invested the cash in a pink dress, which I've just discovered is faulty. I'll just have to live with the flaw, as I bought it from Paddy's Market, and I'd say my chances of getting a refund are close to zero. I'm not particularly fussy about wearing clothes with stains/flaws/hanging threads anyway. I should probably be a bit more fussy, no one likes a grot.
I feel like going out and getting drunk. Ben's asleep, he's no fun.
I'm off to drink scotch and watch Legally Blonde again. I love that movie, as stupid and candy-assed as it is.

After today's spectacular loss on Ebay, what was there to do but go out and buy stuff to ease the pain? Two gingham 1950s shirtwaist dresses, one pink, one turquoise, now never to be mine. I hate to think how high my bidding rival's maximum bid was. Ah well, at least I pushed the price up with my frantic last-minute attempts to beat them. Makes me feel slightly better.
My weekend was so monumentally dull that i think I'll make a short list of exciting things that I DIDN'T do.
1. I did NOT win a rock-and-roll piano playing competition (that's my number one daydream at the moment...like in the Ike and Tina story, where they call different girls from the audience up on the stage to audition when they're looking for a new singer. Needless to say, Tina kicked ass and thus started a beautiful relationship. In my daydream, I overcome my shyness and take to the stage, then proceed to rock everyone's socks off with my red hot rock & roll piano assault)
2. I did NOT leave the house more than about 3 times.
3. I did NOT overspend my three-dollar budget.
4. I did NOT suddenly, inexplicably, wake up with platinum blonde Marilyn hair (if only...)
ok, this is getting stupid now. The possibilities are endless.
In fact, the one vaguely constructive plan that I made was to go the library at uni on Sunday and borrow some books about Stalin. (whoop-di-doo!!) I was ridiculously excited about my trip to the library, mainly because I'd managed to come up with an activity that would kill a few hours without costing anything. Alas, library closed. Drove around a bit with Ben instead. I'm not going to say where we went because it was just too boring.
(Harvey Norman)
That's right, I went to Harvey Norman on a Sunday afternoon. Feel free to boycott this blog now if you like, I would understand completely.

Recipe Of The Week: Orange and Raspberry Cake
Ingredients
125g margarine
3/4 cup (165g) caster sugar
2 eggs, or egg replacer equivalent
1 1/2 cups (225g) self-raising flour
1/2 cup (125 mL) orange juice
3/4 cup raspberries. If you use frozen ones, don't thaw them, please.
1.Grease deep 20cm round cake pan, line base with baking paper, sprinkle with sugar. This
helps your cakey to rise, as the mixture clings tenaciously to the sugar as it climbs up the sides of the pan.
2.Beat butter and sugar in medium bowl til all light and fluffy.
3.Beat in eggs one at a time, beating til just combined between additions. Or, if you are using egg
replacer, divide it in half, pretend it's eggs and do the same.
4.Fold in flour and juice, in 2 alternate batches, ending with a flour batch.
5.Fold in 1/4 cup raspberries, gently now..
6.Now, assemble your cakey. Spread 3/4 of cake mixture into your pan, sprinkle with remaining raspberries.
Spread with remaining cake mixture.
7. Bake in moderate oven (180 degrees) about 1 hour. Stand cake in pan 5 min, then cool on a wire rack.
8. Ice your creation. Orange or passionfruit icing would be nice with this one, I think. I usually just sift some icing sugar until I get sick of it, then add enough orange juice or passionfruit pulp to make a nice consistency.
9. Share with your friends and bask in praise (it'd be nice if you mentioned me, but if you don't, I'll forgive you). Or,
consume alone.
