Spent most of today holed up in Fisher Library, frantically skimming through about 40 books and articles for my annotated bibliography. Began to feel a little crazy after 4 hours, but pushed on anyhow. Another 4 hours later, staggered out into the (waning) sunlight, completely insane. There's something about the research section of Fisher Library that will send you a little crazy, I think. The concrete floor, the extremely poor lighting, the desperate pleas for help that others have carved into the little study desks with their compasses.
Then I went out for dinner with Ben's sister and her husband, and Laura, his 11-year-old half-sister. I didn't realise how much I needed a drink until the bottle of wine was placed in front of me. I drank copiously, chatted to Laura (it's funny how much easier talking to children becomes when you've had a few), then arrived home feeling restless. Decided to scour my record collection for the most depressing songs I could find. Here are the top four:
1. Perfect Day- Mr L. Reed
2. Heroes-Mr D. Bowie
3. Love Will Tear Us Apart- Joy Division
4. Gimme Danger- Stooges
5. Jesus Was A Carpenter-Mr J. Cash
I could blather on at length about the reasons why these songs are depressing, and the similarities between them, but I'm just too drunk. Another day. Possibly tomorrow.

She's still alive....just. I've spent the past week buried in books and papers of various types, working on the 3 assignments that I have due next Monday and Tuesday. A presentation, a listening test, and an annotated bibliograpy. The presentation has occupied most of my time, me being generally terrified about having to get up in front of a bunch of people I don't know or like and talk about something I have no idea about. It's about chivalry. Ho-hum.
Boring, boring, boring, that's what I am. Perpetually exhausted, grumpy, snappy, and a complete failure at being a human being. (Positive thinking!). Or, at least, a complete failure at the fine art of being part of a couple. How I've come to despise that word. It implies a complete loss of individuality. Unfortunately, for me, that's usually the case.
I feel old, cooped up, and boring, boring, boring. Yet any attempts to go out into the big wide world and socialise leave me cold. I can't win, it seems.

Recipe Of The Week: Orange and Raspberry Cake
Ingredients
125g margarine
3/4 cup (165g) caster sugar
2 eggs, or egg replacer equivalent
1 1/2 cups (225g) self-raising flour
1/2 cup (125 mL) orange juice
3/4 cup raspberries. If you use frozen ones, don't thaw them, please.
1.Grease deep 20cm round cake pan, line base with baking paper, sprinkle with sugar. This
helps your cakey to rise, as the mixture clings tenaciously to the sugar as it climbs up the sides of the pan.
2.Beat butter and sugar in medium bowl til all light and fluffy.
3.Beat in eggs one at a time, beating til just combined between additions. Or, if you are using egg
replacer, divide it in half, pretend it's eggs and do the same.
4.Fold in flour and juice, in 2 alternate batches, ending with a flour batch.
5.Fold in 1/4 cup raspberries, gently now..
6.Now, assemble your cakey. Spread 3/4 of cake mixture into your pan, sprinkle with remaining raspberries.
Spread with remaining cake mixture.
7. Bake in moderate oven (180 degrees) about 1 hour. Stand cake in pan 5 min, then cool on a wire rack.
8. Ice your creation. Orange or passionfruit icing would be nice with this one, I think. I usually just sift some icing sugar until I get sick of it, then add enough orange juice or passionfruit pulp to make a nice consistency.
9. Share with your friends and bask in praise (it'd be nice if you mentioned me, but if you don't, I'll forgive you). Or,
consume alone.
