Apologies for the cliffhanger post. I'm a mighty lazy blogger, but you all know that already. I did get into the orchestra, and have been placed in second desk, in fact. Yikes. I cannot understand why I have been placed there, as I am positive that there are others more deserving of second desk position sitting behind me. I know this for sure, because I can hear them playing the hard bits when I duck out & mime cos my fingers won't move that fast. Anyhow. I had my usual 'this is too hard, I should just quit' dilemma 2 weeks ago, but am proud to say that I forced myself to go to rehearsal, and am now starting to have a little more fun. If anyone wants to see me live in concert, we have a gig at Syd Uni on 26th April, a Wednesday. The program is nice, tis Brahms Hungarian Dances, Borodin Polotsvian Dances, something else Russian, and Bernstein Westside Story Symphonic Dances. I really enjoy playing the Brahms, he usually gives the violas some good tidbits, having a love of the richer lower string sounds, as far as I can remember at least. The first 'movement' of his German Requiem actually has NO VIOLINS!! Hah. They miss out, cos it's exceptionally lovely, especially the choral acapella bit near the beginning.
For Helen: My audition outfit consisted of: dark blue jeans(straight leg), red belt, red thongs (I know, I hate thongs too, but these at least have cherries on the insoles), red and white stripy T shirt which is way too big for me but I like anyhow, hair in a ponytail with bits hanging down everywhere cos I got it cut the day before and they dried it funny. Hey! This sounds like the Vogue Forums 'What I am Wearing Today' thread!! I feel a little dirty all of a sudden. I know, I'll put this in small font and no one will see.
I went on an outing on Friday night, to Purple Sneakers at the Abercrombie, and was struck by how very trendy it was. There were people queueing to get in and a red carpet with ropes being operated by a security guard!!! Methinks that this was a mite excessive, perhaps. I drank vodka, raspberry and lemonade and sat in the corner on a little wooden step, watching people, not saying much. I really do like watching people, partly because I am quite shallow and love to look at clothes and outfits. Particularly at a place like that, where people have clearly put some effort into their appearance. I wonder how long they spent planning their look for the evening, and how many times they changed, and whether or not they deliberated over whether they should carry the red or the white handbag, which is something that I often do, as most of my wardrobe is red or white or both at present. As I sat there, a young man came up to me and told me to smile. " They're playing David Bowie, you must be happy". This happens to me a lot-strangers, usually boys, coming up to me and telling me to smile. I wasn't sad, just thinking. I never know what to say to this, so I usually just kind of smile, or, if they're obnoxious, I grimace and walk away. This boy wasn't obnoxious, in fact he was actually kind of cute. Which in itself is a first. Usually the ones who approach me are invariably unappealing and drunk. I could list some examples, but I'd rather forget.

Recipe Of The Week: Orange and Raspberry Cake
Ingredients
125g margarine
3/4 cup (165g) caster sugar
2 eggs, or egg replacer equivalent
1 1/2 cups (225g) self-raising flour
1/2 cup (125 mL) orange juice
3/4 cup raspberries. If you use frozen ones, don't thaw them, please.
1.Grease deep 20cm round cake pan, line base with baking paper, sprinkle with sugar. This
helps your cakey to rise, as the mixture clings tenaciously to the sugar as it climbs up the sides of the pan.
2.Beat butter and sugar in medium bowl til all light and fluffy.
3.Beat in eggs one at a time, beating til just combined between additions. Or, if you are using egg
replacer, divide it in half, pretend it's eggs and do the same.
4.Fold in flour and juice, in 2 alternate batches, ending with a flour batch.
5.Fold in 1/4 cup raspberries, gently now..
6.Now, assemble your cakey. Spread 3/4 of cake mixture into your pan, sprinkle with remaining raspberries.
Spread with remaining cake mixture.
7. Bake in moderate oven (180 degrees) about 1 hour. Stand cake in pan 5 min, then cool on a wire rack.
8. Ice your creation. Orange or passionfruit icing would be nice with this one, I think. I usually just sift some icing sugar until I get sick of it, then add enough orange juice or passionfruit pulp to make a nice consistency.
9. Share with your friends and bask in praise (it'd be nice if you mentioned me, but if you don't, I'll forgive you). Or,
consume alone.
